Chapter 1 History and Mission Statement

     Sanrio is a Japan-based company was founded in 1960 by 83-year-old President Mr. ShintaroTsuji, a.k.a Mr. Cute, based on the long-standing Japanese tradition of gift giving as a symbol of a special and long-lasting relationship and he turned that custom into what is now one of the largest brand licensing businesses in the world that spans 109 countries, more than 1,700 licensees and more than 50,000 products available in almost 12,000 retail stores. 

        Sanrio designs, develops, distributes and licenses a unique collection of over 12.000 branded gift, stationery and fashion accessory items while collaborating with the coolest brands in the world. Sanrio is nowadays a global brand that is fashionable with girls and women everywhere.

      
          The company’s mission is to “provide the means to enrich interpersonal communication”.  Every customer is seen as a gift-giver. With the concept of a small gift can bring a big smile, Sanrio created many super cute character lines which became well know as Hello Kitty, Melody, Little TwinStarts and others. Since the 1970′s, Hello Kitty has been popular with kids all over the world. First designed by Yuko Shimizu, Hello Kitty is a cat without mouth because she can speak from heart and everyone can be sad or happy together with her.
